The 2010 golf season will soon be coming to a close. Shortly we will be turning the clubhouse into a Christmas theme for holiday parties; the biggest being the ‘Small Business Christmas Party’ only a month away. For now, however, the fall golf season just keeps on rolling, highlighted by the SDRAWKCAB ELBMARCS [Backwards Scramble] which was recently held at the course. Playing a golf course backwards is one interesting experience, and a whole lot of fun! Be sure to check out some pictures on our Facebook page and also read all about the big day in our St. Marys Golf Blog, both of which are only a click away below.
Also in this edition of the St. Marys Golf eNewsletter the St. Marys Golf Fitness Academy demonstrates how to improve both the timing and power in your golf swing with the latest article: Sway and Slide. Accompanying the article are a couple of golf fitness exercise videos from Cyril at Stonetown Physio featured on our St. Marys Golf YouTube page. Finally we step into the On-the-Course golf tip where Adam Barr determines how high you should really be teeing up your golf ball on the tee.
Get out to the golf course before the snow starts falling!
Kind regards,
The St. Marys Golf Team

The SDRAWKCAB [Backwards] Scramble comes to St. Marys
A unique day of backwards golf
Recently the St. Marys Golf Team hosted the first golf tournament of its kind to ever grace the fairways of the Gowanbrae and Ainslie nine hole courses at the St. Marys Golf and Country Club; a backwards scramble.
Rob Staffen and Rick Fifield, designers of the backwards golf day, did not know what kind of response they expected when they first came up with the idea back in early summer.

Golf Fitness Academy: Sway & Slide
Improve your timing and power
This week we look at two similar swing faults – Sway and Slide, and how they affect your timing and how far you hit the golf ball.
Sway is defined as any excessive lower body lateral movement away from the target on the backswing. This forces the player to place their weight on the outside of their right foot, if they are a right handed golfer. Slide is any excessive lower body lateral movement towards the target on the downswing. Both sway and slide limit a player’s power.
To see how to improve power in your golf swing, check out the article ‘Sway and Slide’ and the two golf exercise videos (Clam Shells) and (Hip Drop).

On The Course:
How high to tee the golf ball?
Where the ball meets the club makes a difference.
So few of us pay attention to teeing the ball consistently. But it makes a difference where the ball meets the clubface.
At Adam Barr Golf, some of the Tour’s top players share their thoughts on what can be done -- and what shouldn't be done -- with tee height.
