Golf Fitness Academy: Early Extension
Early Extension occurs when the hips and pelvis move closer to the ball during the swing.
This week we take a look at the most common swing fault amongst amateur golfers – Early Extension.
Early Extension occurs when the hips and pelvis move closer to the ball during the swing. It can happen on the backswing, but more commonly occurs on the downswing. A player often feels stuck or trapped with their arms when attempting to strike the ball. Early extension is another way for a player to lose their posture in their golf swing. A typical miss-hit for a right handed golfer is a block to the right or a hook to the left as the player attempts to make a correction with their hands before impact.
Find out how this occurs, but more importantly, how to correct the swing fault that has caused more miss-hits and more lost golf balls than any other swing fault in a golfer’s repertoire.

On the Course: Synchronize your swing
Golf’s most successful players match their backswing plane with their follow-through plane.
By Todd Kuspira, CPGA Professional, Marine Drive GC, Vancouver - Illustration by Greg Douglas
"Most amateurs' swings are disjointed and lack symmetry from the backswing to the downswing. Golf’s most successful players match their backswing plane with their follow-through plane."
Do you ever feel that your swing does not have the correct plane to swing properly through a golf shot? Furthermore, do you ever find yourself in the farmer’s field on hole six at the St. Marys Golf and Country Club? This could be because you do not have proper consistency from your back swing to your fore swing.
